Don Pedro Picnic
DON PEDRO STATE PARK FISHING AND PICNIC LUNCH
This fishing and picnic outing has now become annual springtime event, and is held in late March or early April. For those not familiar with the Park or the picnic details follow.
Don Pedro State Park is located on Little Gasparilla Island, and is only accessible by boat through a small channel near Marker #38 on the Intercoastal Waterway. There is limited docking at the park for about 12 boats, available on a first come basis and cannot be reserved. Activities at the Park include swimming, fishing, shelling and walking the trails around the island. There is a large covered pavilion, tables, grills and restrooms. There is a State Park parking fee of $2.00 per car which you must pay. There is also "normally" a boat usage fee at the dock, but the "Club" pays this fee for all members. Procedures to participate are as follows:
Date & Times: Sat. March 24, 2012 10:00am - 2:00pm
Lunch about 12:00 Noon.
Shuttle Ferry 9:15am - 10:15am and 1:15pm - 2:00pm. Ferry leaves from Don Pedro "Land Base" Dock.
RESERVATIONS & SIGN UP REQUIRED at the MARCH 8 MEETING.
If unable to attend the March Meeting contact Gordon or Diana Roman 941-697-3388. Reservation deadline is Wednesday March 21st.
Transportation: If you choose to come via your own boat we suggest you come early and "boat pool" as space is limited. If you choose NOT to use your own boat, or do not own a boat, the Club will be operationg a "shuttle ferry" from the Park land base dock from 9:30am to 10:15am and back from the Island from 1:30pm to 2:15pm. You must sign up for the shuttle ferry with Gordon Roman 941-697-3388!
The Picnic: Lunch is a 12:00 noon. Participants must bring their own beverages, ice, sunscreen, beach chairs and fishing equipment & bait PLUS a dish to share that would complement a beachside picnic. The club will furnish and cook hamburgers and hot dogs, buns, condiments, plates, napkins, eating utensils and charcoal. You must also sign up/reserve for the picnic.
Fishing Derby: There is also a fishing derby contest at the picnic, and the "Targeted Species" is WHITING - minimum size 9". All members that sign up for the "Picnic" are automatically entered, and the weigh in will be from 12:45pm - 1:15pm.
Again, Sign up sheets will be handed around at the March 8 meeting. Reservations are a must. If you cannot attend this meeting you can make reservations directly with Gordon or Diana.
